This third nursery (68 Jalan Ghazali Jawi, Ipoh) is typical of that found in more middle class suburbs, landscaped & manicured, evocative of a secluded tropical garden that you could happily sit and sip tea in, cooled by water features and shaded against the hot afternoon sun. Its entrance is without any signage and easily passed by, but once you enter through the rickety gates, you enter an oasis of lush greenery which is a labour of love for the couple who run it.

Down winding paths, there are palms, cacti, air-plants and koi ponds. There are trickling fountains, alocasias and large specimens in enormous jars, lots of plants all carefully arranged in perfect harmony and tempting one to buy. You will recognise the familiar, like the Tradescantia 'Nanouk Pink' and the rarities like the beautiful striped-leaf Schimatoglottis wongii A.Hay (which is native to Borneo in East Malaysia) below.

Tillandsia usneoides - had to get one!

Apart from discovering new plants (and you need to hunt around or ask!), the hard landscaping was inspiring and the canopy of trees kept it cool even in the midday tropical heat.

I came away with air-plants, succulents and cacti, but hope to return to find other treasures in the summer.
Till next time, I hope you enjoyed wandering with me through another nursery. A great way to spend a blissful afternoon rather than having a siesta!
